Reynolds recently
held a ceremony to welcome the college’s first class to its Honors Program. Students
accepted into the Honors Program participate in more advanced, complex academic
work based on four foundational pillars: critical thinking, independent
research, interdisciplinary learning, and engagement.
“We are convinced
we can make this work at Reynolds,” noted Reynolds Vice President of Academic
Affairs Dr. David Loope. “We have some extraordinarily bright students –
genuinely interested in the content of the courses, the academic rigor and
critical thinking. These students look at the course work as their life work.”
At the heart of the
Reynolds Honors Program is its primary goal: to foster the sustained
intellectual growth and personal development of students as they develop the
confidence and skills necessary for continued academic and professional
leadership. This program
helps all students to enhance their critical thinking and communication skills,
to identify clear educational and personal goals, and to pursue those goals
with a sense of purpose and meaning.
“We have a very strong tradition in the state of Virginia
as all our four year colleges and universities already have an honors program
or honors colleges,” Honors Program Faculty Coordinator Ashley
Bourne-Richardson said addressing the students. “The Reynolds Honors Program
will assist you in your love for learning.”
