Classes with no book costs open new chapter for colleges

Article from Richmond Times-Dispatch - A father of 14 month old twin boys, Reynolds student Eric Eichenlaub was especially gratified when he enrolled in two American Literature courses that are part of a pilot program using free open-source materials rather than hardcover textbooks. 

When he receives the syllabus for one of his classes at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Eric Eichenlaub buys whatever textbook might be listed even though he knows from experience that some instructors never refer to the book.

“I’m the kind of guy — I go and get it,” he said. “I think I’m doing the right thing.”
